General Status:
About 295 geologic maps released from DGGS are included here. This represents
about 95% of DGGS publications that include actual geologic maps. A "gray" area
exists between what constitutes a geologic map, a derivative map to be included with
this publication, and supporting publications that are not included with this information.
Eventually supporting publications may be added as well.
Currently no U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, or U.S. Bureau of
Mines maps are included. From 400 to 600 U.S. Geological Survey maps will be added to this
web site in mid-winter. U.S. Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Bureau of Mines have produced
only a few geologic maps. These will be included in a future update.
The data will eventually be moved from MapInfo to the MDIRA-funded DGGS Division-wide
database. It will be periodically updated and the data sent to LRIS for inclusion in
this web site. Moving the data to this Oracle database will allow more robust queries
to be made, such as searching for selected items in "Title". When the data are moved to
Oracle, the interface will be updated and improved.
On-Line Links:
Currently links to scanned DGGS maps. DGGS is scanning (through another MDIRA funded
project) U.S.G.S. Bulletins and Professional Reports. They will also be linked to
this database. Other USGS publications will probably also be made available in the future.
Together, these documents and systems will contribute to the MDIRA Multi-Agency Bibliography.
